KIKA cas is pleased to present Metathesis, a solo exhibition by Kei Ota, on view from February 7 to March 1, 2026. Drawing on her background in ballet and her lived experience between dual cultural identities, Ota creates an installation using movable stage flats and layered fabric drapes that continuously transform the visual landscape.

The exhibition’s title refers to a linguistic phenomenon in which sounds or syllables are rearranged within a word, altering its form and meaning. Ota applies this process spatially, regularly shifting the position of the painted flats to create new image associations. Drawing upon personal memories that oscillate between dream and reality, Metathesis invites viewers into a space where painting functions less as a fixed image and more as a living stage.
