Since 1990, contemporary art has repeatedly permeated various visual images in our social lives combined with other trends in globalization. It has transformed into something different from previous periods and, according to Yves Michaud, has vaporized (kika) into a gaseous state that lingers all over the world.

Over a few decades, the word "global" has become ingrained in our daily lives. It seems as though not a day goes by that we don't hear this word.
New language has emerged to describe this phenomenon, such as "intimacy of interrelations," "complex connectivity," or "hyperconnectivity.” But do they truly indicate our understanding of the world in its fullness as a spherical entity? How can we discern events on the other side of the globe on a physical level?
KIKA cas (formerly KIKA gallery) was established in Kyoto’s Kita Ward in September 2020 with three core aims: to be international, contemporary, and interactive.
As globalized human activity melts Antarctic ice caps and burns tropical rainforests, the definition of a new geological era is being debated alongside rising radioactive levels. While artificial intelligence travels on highways with built-in sensors, "rational choices" resulting from knowledge accumulation are eventually reaching a singularity today, which appears to cast a light at the root of humanity. How should we deal with this unprecedented challenge?
In the ancient capital of Kyoto, where traditional culture is rooted, KIKA cas addresses our globalized society through contemporary art. Our mission at KIKA cas is to create a platform for global citizens to engage in open dialogue and exchange ideas that transcend borders.
