Based on the media theory created by German philosopher Walter Benjamin in the first half of the 20th century, I am interested in how human perception has evolved in tandem with the rise of analogue media following the 19th century. In other words, what escapes our perception when we narrow our concentration to something specific? How do we perceive what we missed? In response to this issue, I am exploring Benjamin’s theories of habit and distraction and the techniques to utilize them. I wonder if these forms can be weaponized in our digital society…(I run a book club at KIKA about once a month).
