Expanding the possibilities of urushi as a material, Onari explores forms of expression that engage the sound, light, scent, and other elements inherent in a space. He studied under Hyoetsu Miki IV, a fourth-generation master of traditional Kyoto lacquerware.
His awards include the Ōbaku Excellence Award at the Japan Sencha Craft Exhibition in 2019 and the Chairman of the Kyoto Chamber of Commerce and Industry Award at the Kyoto Lacquerware Cooperative Youth Division Exhibition in 2020.
