Article: One Year After "Documenta 15" - What Does Looking Back Mean?: "Kassel Documenta Talk" Report at Goethe-Institut Villa Kamogawa (by Mio Harada)
Documenta is an influential event in the global contemporary art scene held every five years in Kassel, Hesse, Germany. This program will discuss dOCUMENTA 15, which took place in 2022. Directed by the Indonesian collective ruangrupa, dOCUMENTA sparked a great deal of debate not only in the art world but also in society at large. In this program, four curators/artists who visited the exhibition will discuss it from their perspectives. Due to the politically sensitive nature of dOCUMENTA 15, the talks will be held with a small number of people and will be posted online at a later date. dOCUMENTA 15, which was built on a foundation of commons and shared resources, was an alternative proposal for our acceleratingly competitive society. As a result, it is necessary to discuss the exhibition that has caused a stir in the market-driven trend of contemporary art while considering the current state of Japanese society. What are the issues that should be discussed today? We will also discuss global issues that we are all facing today, not only in Japan.
